An image of the Immaculate Virgin that moved miraculously

On May 22, 1986, news of a supposed miracle at the Cruz Verde spread rapidly throughout the community and the media, sparking great interest and excitement among neighbors and faithful. The story took place in a humble home in the Los Gallos neighborhood, where Isabel Fuertes lived, a sixty-two-year-old woman known for her deep faith and devotion to the Virgin Mary. In her home, she kept a reproduction of the image of the Immaculate Conception, which had belonged to her great-great-grandmother, a piece that, for her, represented many generations of faith and family tradition. The reproduction featured a bust of the Immaculate Conception, modeled after Murillo, carefully protected by glass to preserve the image's integrity.
According to Isabel, that day, she was experiencing a severe headache, so she decided to go to the room where the image was kept to ask the Virgin Mary not to get sick herself, as her husband had suffered a severe blood clot and no one could care for him at the time. In that act of faith, and in the midst of her anguish, something unexpected happened: the image moved its pupils and opened its hands in a prayerful attitude, a scene that surprised both Isabel and those present at the moment. The woman began to scream and call her neighbors, alerting them to what had happened, which caused a great commotion in the small home.
From that moment on, the old house quickly became a place of pilgrimage, as numerous residents of Cruz Verde and other nearby areas came hoping to witness the miraculous vision. People of all ages, some believers and others simply curious, came day after day to contemplate the image, which seemed to come to life beneath the glass window, fueling the beliefs and hopes of a simple community yet passionate about its religious faith.
The neighborhood's parish priest at the time, Father José Luis Cacho, was cautious and prudent about the situation, stating that the event could be interpreted as both a psychological and religious phenomenon, and he preferred not to make definitive judgments. However, as the days passed, many people claimed to have seen the image move its hair and neck, testimonies that increased disbelief and doubts about whether what happened was a simple optical phenomenon or something deeper and more spiritual. This event, in addition to strengthening the faith of many, sparked a debate among believers and skeptics about the true nature of these acts and the possible existence of miracles in the daily life of a humble community, whose devotion to the Virgin Mary remained alive and constantly expressed through stories like this one, which remain vivid in the neighborhood's collective memory.
